The Guillermo Concha Ibérico International Airport, located in Piura, is making significant progress in its rehabilitation and maintenance efforts, achieving 52% completion in the works, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC). Supervised by the MTC’s General Directorate of Programs and Projects, the project involves an investment of $43 million.
Ongoing works include rehabilitating 2,500 meters of the runway and 1,800 meters of the existing perimeter fence, as well as constructing a new 5,980-meter fence in previously underserved areas. The MTC reports that by December 2024, runway rehabilitation was 54% complete, while the perimeter fence had reached 16% progress.
This project is expected to benefit an estimated 2.1 million people, aiming to significantly enhance the airport’s services, facilitate air traffic, and strengthen the region’s economic development. The MTC anticipates that the works will conclude by the second quarter of 2025.
The Piura airport forms part of the concession granted to Aeropuertos del Perú, allowing the implementation of these upgrades within a regulated public-private collaboration framework.
According to Cirium, the Piura airport is connected to Lima via 14 weekly flights by SKY and 54 weekly flights by LATAM, ensuring strong connectivity for the region.
