Spain: Repsol Secures Majority of Aena's Fuel Supply Contract for 2025-2026

Aena has awarded Repsol the contract to supply diesel, biofuels, and propane across its facilities for the 2025-2026 period, with an option to extend for an additional year. According to Spanish newspaper 20 Minutos, the energy multinational secured five out of the six lots tendered. The remaining lot, covering the Canary Islands and valued at €549,963, was awarded to Grupo Disa.
The total contract value amounts to €12 million and includes the supply of diesel for 47 centers, with an estimated annual volume of 2.4 million liters. Additionally, it provides for the delivery of propane to two airports and up to 700,000 liters of biofuels (HVO) during the initial 24-month term. Aena retains the right to increase supply volumes by up to 30% or include new depots, based on operational requirements or the addition of newly managed centers.
The tender process, initiated in July 2024, was resolved on December 23, as reported on Spain's public sector procurement platform and compiled by 20 Minutos. Throughout the contract period, Aena may decommission depots without penalties, while pricing for additional depots will remain consistent with the original award terms.
Lot Distribution Overview
The supply contract is divided into six lots, organized by region and fuel type:
- Central/Northern Region: Includes airports in A Coruña, Asturias, Bilbao, Burgos, Huesca, La Rioja, León, Madrid, Madrid-Cuatro Vientos, Navarra, Salamanca, San Sebastián, Santander, Santiago, Valladolid, Vigo, Vitoria, Zaragoza, and Aena's central offices.
- Mediterranean Region: Covers airports in Albacete, Algeciras, Alicante, Almería, Barcelona, Córdoba, Girona, Granada, Ibiza, Jerez, Málaga, Melilla, Menorca, Palma de Mallorca, Reus, Sabadell, Sevilla, Son Bonet, and Valencia.
- Canary Islands: Awarded to Grupo Disa, encompassing airports in El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma, Lanzarote, Tenerife North, and Tenerife South.
- Propane Supply: Exclusively for the airports of Granada and Madrid-Cuatro Vientos, serviced by Repsol Butano.
- Biofuels: Allocated for use in various centers as specified in the tender, without specific airport assignments.
- Murcia: Diesel supply dedicated solely to Región de Murcia International Airport.
