SKY Airline Launches Direct Buenos Aires–Salvador Route Amid Growing Competition
Flight H2 1680 will depart from Ezeiza International Airport on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 AM, arriving in Salvador at 12:20 PM. The return leg will depart from the northeastern Brazilian city at 1:20 PM, landing in Buenos Aires at 6:10 PM.
Leveraging Argentina's recent aerocommercial liberalization, SKY Airline continues to expand its footprint in the country. On Tuesday, the Chilean ultra-low-cost carrier, which also operates a subsidiary in Peru, announced the launch of a new direct route connecting Buenos Aires and Salvador, Brazil.
Starting April 2, the airline will operate twice-weekly flights between the two cities. Flight H2 1680 will depart from Ezeiza International Airport on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 AM, arriving in Salvador at 12:20 PM. The return leg will leave Salvador at 1:20 PM, landing in Buenos Aires at 6:10 PM.
“We are kicking off 2025 with a significant milestone, announcing a new direct route that connects Argentina and Brazil in under five hours," said Franco Chaparro, SKY's Sales Manager. "This route brings closer two iconic cities—Buenos Aires and Salvador de Bahia—and allows approximately 2,400 travelers per month to fly between these destinations. It aligns with our goal of making the skies accessible to everyone. Additionally, we expect this expansion to strengthen our presence in South America, opening Argentina’s doors to the region."
Tickets for the route start at USD 355 (approximately ARS 451,944) roundtrip, including taxes.
Currently, SKY Airline operates 28 weekly flights between Santiago and Buenos Aires, seven weekly flights from Lima to Buenos Aires, 10 weekly flights from Santiago to Mendoza, and three weekly flights to Bariloche. In December, the airline also introduced a seasonal route between Santiago and El Calafate.
Competitive Landscape
SKY Airline's new service will face competition in the Chilean market from Aerolíneas Argentinas and GOL. Aerolíneas Argentinas plans to operate two weekly flights between Buenos Aires/Aeroparque and Salvador in April, while GOL will match the frequency, splitting operations between Aeroparque and Ezeiza. During the peak summer season, both airlines increase frequencies to between 7 and 10 weekly flights, making Salvador a highly contested destination.
