TAR Aerolíneas expands fleet and routes for 2025 amid market growth
TAR Aerolíneas has announced its ambitious plans for 2025, including fleet expansion and the launch of new routes to meet growing market demand. After ending its wet-leasing contract with Mexicana de Aviación, the regional carrier aims to strengthen its role in Mexico’s air transport sector with increased capacity, modernized infrastructure, and a focus on enhancing passenger experience.
TAR Aerolíneas has unveiled its operational plans for 2025, which include fleet expansion and the addition of new routes in response to the projected growth of the air transport market. This announcement follows the recent conclusion of its wet-leasing contract with Mexicana de Aviación, the state-owned airline established in 2023, which has struggled to achieve sustainable demand levels.
According to TAR, 2024 ended with a 70% load factor and a cancellation rate of less than 2%. The airline operated 24 routes across 10 states in Mexico, 17 of which were direct and 7 with stopovers. During the year, TAR initiated a fleet modernization program and implemented administrative adjustments to enhance its operations.
Looking ahead to 2025, TAR plans to operate six aircraft, enabling greater capacity and coverage. While specific details about the new routes have not been disclosed, the company noted that the additions are designed to address market needs and strengthen its role in Mexico's air transport development.
TAR's expansion strategy also includes infrastructure improvements and enhancements to passenger experience. A company spokesperson stated: “We are working on a strategy to expand our network, which will include new routes, and this time, not just domestic ones. This plan aims to contribute to the country’s economic growth and meet the market’s air transport demands.”
Data from Cirium Fleets Analyzer shows TAR currently operates a fleet of four active ERJ-145 aircraft and has two stored. The airline’s network includes 14 destinations in Mexico, offering 39,550 seats across 791 flights in January 2025.
