The Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima experiences a progress of 20.7% of the works. This percentage includes the construction of a new control tower, a new runway, new terminals, new roads and the hotel sector.

With these works, the gateway to the country will be able to double its operating capacity and will have the functionality of simultaneously carrying out two landing and take-off operations per minute, according to the Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC for its initials in Spanish).

The new control tower has completed eleven of the twelve floors that are planned. During this month of May CORPAC began to install the equipment and systems for the air navigation service. This package of works will be ready by the end of 2022.

On the other hand, the second take-off and landing runway, which will have a length of 3,480 meters, is in the massive earth movement stage. The works in progress cover an area of 600 hectares and include a network of more than 40 kilometers of new taxiways, approach lights and beacon systems, among other points. The first paving works are expected to begin this June.

Once this work is completed, the other runway will temporarily close to receive further maintenance in accordance with the operations that the airport usually has. This includes new taxiways connecting to the new platform.

In the third quarter of this year, Lima Airport Partners (LAP), concessionaire of Jorge Chávez airport, plans to award the works on the Land Side. Which includes the new passenger terminal, parking platforms and access routes.

The new terminal is designed according to the demand of traffic and new airlines, being functional and sustainable with the environment.

The works for the main airport in Lima were extremely necessary, given that in the last decade it experienced an explosive increase in passengers and new companies. When these works are completed, they will allow it to move up to 50 million passengers per year.

In the domestic market, ATSA Airlines, LATAM Peru, SKY Airline Peru, STAR Peru and Viva Air Peru are operating. JetSMART will soon enter as a new player for the country’s domestic flights.

On the other hand, the international market includes Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeroméxico, Air Europa, Air France, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Grupo LATAM, Iberia, JetBlue Airways, KLM, JetSMART Chile, SKY Airline, Spirit Airlines, United Airlines and Viva Air Colombia. Then Wingo will join from June 28.
