The Antonov An-12, a Soviet-era cargo plane operated by Cavok Air, is making stops in Brazil this week during its operation to Paraguay. With nearly 60 years in service, this aircraft showcases a storied history as it continues to traverse international routes
An Antonov An-12 aircraft is landing at Brazilian airports again this week as part of its operation en route to Paraguay.
The 59-year-old An-12BP, registration UR-CBG, operated by the Ukrainian airline Cavok Air, departed from Malta last Saturday, January 11, on flight CVK-7082.
The flight included refueling and crew rest stops at four locations. Before reaching Brazil, it stopped in Málaga, Spain, and Espargos, Cape Verde. Once in Brazil, the aircraft made two scheduled stops, according to our associated media in Brazil, AEROIN.
The first stop occurred on January 13 at Natal International Airport in São Gonçalo do Amarante (RN), where it landed at 12:15 a.m. and remained for 24 hours, departing at 1:04 a.m. on January 14. The next destination was JK International Airport in Brasília (DF), where it landed at 5:23 a.m. and stayed for two and a half hours before continuing to Asunción, Paraguay.
After its visit to Paraguay, the Soviet-era aircraft will make a third stop in Brazil. On January 15, flight UKL-7083 will depart from Asunción at 11:00 a.m., heading to Eduardo Gomes International Airport in Manaus (AM). The landing in Manaus is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., with a departure at 5:00 p.m. bound for Barbados in the Caribbean.
The UR-CBG can be tracked in real-time on the AirNav Radar platform when its signal is detected.
Cavok Air, based at Chisinau International Airport, operates a fleet of three Antonov An-12BKs, with an average age of 55.3 years, including the Antonov currently visiting South America.
The aircraft has a rich history, delivered in June 1966 to the Soviet Air Force, where it served until the USSR's dissolution. It later operated for the Russian Air Force in 1991, then transitioned to Antonov Airtrack International Cargo Airlines in 1994. After changing hands through various operators, it joined Cavok Air in 2015 after being stored for three years.
