The accelerated recovery process of air connectivity in Colombia had a positive impact on Viva Air, as shown by the numbers released by the ultra low-cost.
In the first quarter of this year, it transported 1,047,898 passengers on 6,807 flights, with its operational capacity in March growing 31% compared to February, which allowed it to capture 23% of the Colombian market. During the same period of 2020, according to data from Aerocivil, Viva Air had transported 1,098,510 passengers.
The load factor reached 82%, the same as before the pandemic and two percentage points more than the average value registered in the industry at the local level, being the leader in this indicator.
Regarding cargo, a business unit developed during the pandemic, Viva Air transported 660 tons in the first quarter.
«Viva Air continues with the firm purpose of connecting Colombia with the region and the world with its low-cost model, certified biosafety protocols and the highest standards of safety and punctuality in its flights» the company said through a statement, also highlighting the progress of its expansion strategy in the Colombian domestic market, which has led it to inaugurate a series of routes in recent months.
Its current network reaches 26 domestic routes in Colombia and seven international routes. Its Peruvian subsidiary already has seven domestic routes, and together the group operates 21 A321s.
