The summer season pushes US airlines to increase their presence in sunny destinations. In addition, the countries of the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America have put their efforts to reactivate tourism as Americans achieve high immunization rates. Vaccine tourism is also a determining factor in the face of this increase.

A few weeks ago, the FAA downgraded Mexico to Category 2 for «not meeting the ICAO safety standard,» affecting the route opening plans of Mexican airlines. American companies will take advantage of this situation and will go out to gain ground over their neighboring rivals.

Although the categorization does not affect current routes, it does prevent Mexican companies from offering new flights or registering new aircraft to fly on routes to and from the northern neighbor.
