Potosí Airport resumes its regular flights

The Minister of Public Works, Services and Housing, Edgar Montaño, reported that on June 14 the Potosí Airport will be enabled for commercial flights. It will be with an operation of Boliviana de Aviación (BoA).

In an interview with eju.tv he stated: «We have agreed to reactivate flights from the Potosí Airport to the rest of the country and that is important because in the end our population also has the right to fly. Yes, there are minimum conditions of which has been discussed with the General Manager of BoA. We are going to accomplish already from the next month,» the Minister informed yesterday. The authority inspected the construction of the airport, after what it met with Governor Jhonny Mamani and local authorities in Potosí.

According to what was jointly reported by the Administration of Airports and Auxiliary Services of Air Navigation (AASANA for its initials in Spanish) and the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC), Potosinos may be able to travel to the rest of the country’s departments.

From the new administration they criticized the previous government for the delay of more than 11 months in the construction works of the new airport runway.

Air operations represent an extra difficulty in Potosí, since the city is located 4,067 meters above sea level, becoming the second highest city in the world among those with more than 100,000 inhabitants. That is why the new runway will be 4,000 meters long, 1,200 more than the current one. The airport has an elevation of 3,935 meters above sea level.

Flights of Boliviana de Aviación

The state company will operate three weekly flights between Cochabamba and Potosí, departing from the first city on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30 to arrive in Potosí at 8:10. In the opposite direction, the flight will depart at 8:40 a.m., landing at 9:20 a.m. The operations will be carried out in CRJ200 aircraft with capacity for 50 passengers.
