Argentina expands inbound international passenger quota to 1,700 per day
In a press conference that took place this noon the Chief of Staff Santiago Cafiero and the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti announced that starting tomorrow, August 7, the quota of international passengers that may arrive in the country will be increased from the current 1,000 to 1,700 per day.
The return of foreign tourism, which had been mentioned by President Alberto Fernández earlier, will be relegated to a second stage.
From March to June, the Argentine government allowed the entry of some 2,000 passengers per day, a figure reduced to 600 during the arrival of the second wave of contagions, and which, as of July 10, grew weekly to 742, 900 and 1,000 until today.
After hearing the news, Felipe Baravalle, Executive Director of Argentina’s Chamber of Airlines (JURCA) told Aviacionline that the quota is still very low, because it was already insufficient when there were 2,000.
«We do not know how they are going to implement it, we will have to wait for ANAC’s Administrative Decision, to see if full flights will be allowed; also there were talks regarding allowing other safe corridors, and enabling other airports, so we do not know if that quota will be for Ezeiza or for all, so we will have to wait for the instrumentation», commented Baravalle.
«We still do not have the flights approved so we will see when they can start to be implemented,» he concluded.
