Britain’s largest airline, British Airways returns to its third destination in Texas, United States, after 17 months without transatlantic service at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), by October 13, 2021 resuming its popular connection to London Heathrow International Airport (LHR).
British Airways began operations at Austin (AUS) in March 2014, becoming the pioneer of long-haul flights from Texas’ third largest city.
Years later, the competition between London and Austin intensified with the entry of the now non longer operating Norwegian Long Haul, which introduced a service from Gatwick Airport (LGW) with three weekly frequencies with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, while British Airways had daily flights operated with Boeing 747-400.
Figures obtained by Aviacionline through Civil Aviation Authority CAA indicate that during 2019 that between Austin (AUS) and London airports carried 62,740 passengers from Gatwick (LGW) by Norwegian UK and 188,349 passengers from Heathrow (LHR) by British Airways.
Demand for flights to Austin (AUS) has increased in recent years with the entry of Lufthansa from Frankfurt (FRA) and soon KLM from Amsterdam (AMS) by summer 2022.

“We can’t wait to welcome our customers back on board our Austin flights and we are honored to be playing our part in reuniting families and friends with their loved ones after such a long time apart,” said Marie Hilditch, British Airways’ Head of North America sales.
“The safety of our customers and colleagues has always been at the heart of everything we do. We know some customers won’t have flown for a long time, we can assure them we have a range of Covid-19 measures in place to provide stress and hassle-free travel.” Hilditch adds.
Its partner American Airlines has recently expanded its operations at Austin, allowing greater connections to destinations in the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and the Caribbean from Bergstrom Airport (AUS).
British Airways has introduced a number of biosecurity measures at the airport to ensure the protection of its customers and crew members. The cabin of its flights is equipped with HEPA filters that remove 99.9% of microscopic viruses and bacteria.
“We are thrilled to be welcoming back British Airways to Austin and celebrate the return of nonstop service to London-Heathrow,” said Jacqueline Yaft, Chief Executive Officer for AUS. “The resumption of nonstop transatlantic between our two cities is great news for both business and leisure travelers alike.”
