Ryanair has announced today its winter schedule for Naples, one of the most important markets of Southern Italy. The largest airline in Italy will operate twelve new routes from this city basing another 737 in the airport. Hence the number of based aircraft will be five.

Overall, the investment for the winter season in Naples is EUR100 million. In preparation for the next Summer season, Ryanair expects to create 800 new job openings in Italy.

«As the number one airline in Italy, Ryanair commits to rebuilding the Italian tourism industry», said Dara Brady, Marketing Director of the airline, in a press release.

Though he said this winter Ryanair plans to take 55 new Boeing 737-8200MAX, labeled by the company as the «Game Changer», he asked the Italian government to eliminate from all airports in the country the «addizionale comunale», that charges EUR6.50 to each passenger in airports that board over 1 million customers a year.

The charge from airports with this threshold was lifted last August and will last until the end of the year. Ryanair launched 13 new routes and added another 17 frequencies.

The twelve new nonstop destinations from Naples are Agadir, Bucharest, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, London/Luton, Milan/Malpensa, Prague, Sofia, Tallinn, Tenerife South, and Zagreb. This brings the total of nonstop routes from Naples operated by Ryanair to 46 and the number of served countries to 20.

«Ryanair’s the largest airline in Naples by the number of transported passengers and destinations offered. The collaboration with the airport started in 2017 and was characterized by a constant growth that, after a stalling period, rebounds with strength, confirming a trust of the airline in our market», celebrated Margherita Chiaramonte, Director of Network Development at GESAC, the company that manages Naples Airport.

«A trust that allowed to reinforce the base and increase the routes, that passed from 19 in Summer 2017 to 46 on winter 2021 and translates into economic, social and occupational growth to the territory.»

Naples is dominated by ultra-low-cost carriers. According to data gathered by Aviacionline with Cirium Diio Mi, 62.39% of the airport’s capacity next month is provided by EasyJet, Ryanair, and Wizz Air, the three of which base aircraft in Capodichino Airport.

Ryanair is expected to operate 1,488 flights to and from Naples in October, offering 282,632 seats and an equivalent of 29.07% of the entire capacity in the airport for the month.

In Italy, Ryanair’s flights are operated by Malta Air, a company of the group based in Malta, due to taxation over its local employees’ payroll. Nevertheless, apart from a number of Bergamo-based 737-8200MAX in Malta Air’s colors, all branding, marketing, and sales effort have Ryanair in it.
