The Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos, reported this December 1st, that from December 10th, and no longer from December 15th, as planned, it will be mandatory the presentation of the card with the two doses of vaccination for adults over 18 years of age that travel within the country.

It is important to remember that in mid-November, the Peruvian government ordered a series of restrictive measures, such as the obligation to carry a complete vaccination card (with 2 doses) to those over 18 years old, for entering closed spaces, such as shopping centers, restaurants, stores, cinemas, as well as to travel within the country.

However, he noted that the good news is that vaccination program in Peru has already reached 66.5% of the target population, and in the next few days it should reach up to 70%.

Likewise, the Minister of Health confirmed that Peru will not yet open its land borders with neighboring countries due to the alert of the presence of the new Omicron variant.

“Some new measures have been taken and they have also been advanced. This will be made official tomorrow (December 2nd). These restrictions have been advanced for December 10th for prevention against this variant (Omicron). The decision has been made for now, not to open the borders as planned. Even neighboring countries have already made this decision before us», he said at a press conference.

Also, the authority indicated that passengers from countries like South Africa or countries with a community infection with this new variant will be requested to have a double vaccination and a negative PCR COVID-19 test taken no longer than 48 hours.

«The rest of the countries will continue to circulate only with the certificate of 2 doses of vaccination,» he added.

It is necessary to mention that these requirements for passengers will be mandatory for both nationals and foreigners, and for domestic flights as well as international ones that enters the country.
