SKY Peru submitted a balance of its management in 2021, highlighting its position as the second most important airline in the Peruvian domestic market by having a 17% share, having transported more than 1.3 million passengers throughout the year on its thirteen domestic connections.
The company entered the Peruvian domestic market in April 2019, taking advantage of the hard-hit Peruvian Airlines and Avianca Peru airlines that have both ceased operations. It also became the second low-cost carrier to arrive in the country, following VIVA’s landing in May 2017.
Quickly SKY overtook VIVA, operating initially on the most important routes from Lima, relying on a modern fleet of four Airbus A320neo based in the Peruvian capital, which today are already six.
Initial destinations in these two years were Arequipa (AQP), Ayacucho (AYP), Cusco (CUZ), Iquitos (IQT), Juliaca (JUL), Piura (PIU), Pucallpa (PCL), Puerto Maldonado (PEM), Tarapoto (TPP), Trujillo (TRU) and Tumbes (TBP). By 2022, two additional cities will be added and they are evaluating opening a second base of operations in the country, projecting a 20% share of the domestic market.
Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the international expansion was supposed to start in 2020, but the first destination was delayed until 2021: Cancun (CUN), Mexico, then Buenos Aires/Ezeiza (EZE), Argentina on December 13, 2021, and Punta Cana (PUJ), Dominican Republic, will follow on January 3, 2021. The company has already advanced negotiations to land in Bogota (BOG), Colombia, and Miami (MIA), United States, in the first months of 2022.

SKY will double its fleet to 13 aircraft, consolidating the low-cost offer, taking advantage of the recovery of passenger demand in this new context. José Raúl Vargas, SKY’s General Manager in Peru, was interviewed by El Comercio and stated that Lima is a cornerstone for the company.
«We are extremely pleased and proud of the results achieved after these months that have been so tough for the industry. We continue in pursuit of our dream of allowing all Peruvians to fly on the fastest and safest means of transportation. We thank all the customers who trusted us and have allowed the consolidation of our position as the second airline with the highest number of passengers nationwide. We expect to keep growing with you this 2022 by offering a wider range of flights with low-cost fares», said the executive.
