Wizz Air is expanding its operations at Gatwick Airport (LGW) with the launch of 14 new routes with special promotional fares starting from 8.99 euros. The airline will introduce popular holiday destinations to the Mediterranean, the Azores, Israel, and Eastern Europe.

«This announcement is another testament to our commitment to London Gatwick Airport and the UK market as we continue to create local jobs and deliver our promise to offer travel at low fares,» said József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air.

The company’s expansion from Gatwick was possible thanks to the acquisition of 15 pairs of slots previously owned by Norwegian Air Shuttle. Wizz Air will add four additional 239-seat Airbus A321neo aircraft to its London (LGW) base, allowing the airline to increase capacity to high-demand routes such as Athens, Greece, and Malaga, Spain.

Wizz Air opened its base at Gatwick (LGW) in October 2020, including branding with British AOC, with the objective of reinforcing its presence in the UK. Together with its operation from Luton Airport, the low-cost airline offers a total of 88 routes from London.

«We are thrilled to launch a number of new routes from Gatwick, following the announcement of our acquisition of new slots at the airport. Whether it’s a relaxing beach vacation in the Algarve or a getaway to Montenegro’s capital Podgorica, there are so many wonderful destinations to discover» said Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK.

«Wizz Air is one of Europe’s largest airlines and has seen the benefits of expanding at the airport for some time, so I am very pleased that five aircraft based at Gatwick will be flying routes to popular destinations in Europe this summer» added Stephanie Wear, Vice President Aviation Development at Gatwick Airport.

Throughout the course of the pandemic, Wizz Air is maintaining its strategy to continue to grow in the UK and across its network. Indigo Partners’ ultra-low-cost carrier has opened 18 new bases, launched more than 400 routes, delivered 39 aircraft, and ordered additional aircraft during the Dubai Airshow.
