Leading airline business intelligence company Cirium unveiled the winners of its On-Time Performance 2021, which rewards airlines that have demonstrated strength in their operations.

Copa Airlines resulted in the leader in Latin America and the Caribbean, reaching an exceptional on-time performance rate of 90.25% while advancing in its recovery after reaching 80% of its pre-pandemic traffic during the fourth quarter of 2021 and expecting to recover to 100% in 2022.

Second place went to Aerolíneas Argentinas, which achieved a punctuality index of 89.17%, while Azul closes the podium with 88.91%.

Cirium stated that the results in Latin America provide optimism for the region’s recovery, with airlines performing well after being particularly hard hit by COVID-19-related restrictions.

«It was another challenging and complex year for the aviation industry, however, 2021 was significantly better than 2020, marking the beginning of the recovery,» said Jeremy Bowen, general manager of Cirium.

The company gathers data from more than 25 million flights using more than 600 real-time information sources, covering airlines, airports, global distribution systems, positioning data, civil aviation authorities, proprietary systems, and air navigation service providers, among others.

At a global level, airlines operating in at least three regions and representing the top 10% in terms of capacity and volume in ASK (offered seat-kilometers), flights performed, and seats are considered. The regional ranking considers the top 30% of supply in the case of Latin America.
