<a href="https://www.aircaraibes.com">Air Caraïbes</a>, the airline of the groupe Dubreuil, received its fourth Airbus A350-1000, consolidating its widebody fleet. The delivery took place at Airbus facilities in Toulouse (TLS). The aircraft subsequently performed a ferry flight to Paris/Orly (ORY), where it will be deployed on its two highest-demand routes: Pointe-à-Pitre (PTP), Fort-de-France (FDF), and occasionally to Punta Cana (PUJ).
Like the rest of its A350-1000s, the aircraft registered as F-HAJP is configured with 24 seats in business class (Madras), 45 in premium economy (Caraïbes), and 360 in economy (Soleil), totaling 429 seats. The Caribbean airline&#8217;s widebody fleet consists of two A330-300s, three A350-900s, and four A350-1000s, all based at Orly to connect with the French Caribbean.

Air Caraïbes receives fourth Airbus A350-1000 to strengthen its widebody fleet

<a href="https://www.flyliat20.com/">LIAT 2020</a>, the new version of the airline, continues expanding after its return, adding new routes in the Caribbean and recovering destinations from the defunct LIAT (1974) Ltd.
On November 19, it arrived in South America with flights to Georgetown (GEO), Guyana, and on November 29 to Tortola (EIS) in the British Virgin Islands. On December 19 and 20, it will fly to Port of Spain (POS), Trinidad and Tobago, and Kingston (KIN), Jamaica, respectively.
LIAT 2020 started flying in April 2024, with a 70% stake by the Nigerian airline Air Peace and the remaining 30% in the hands of the Antigua &amp; Barbuda government. The African airline has invested around USD 65 million in LIAT, while the Caribbean country contributed USD 20 million.
The airline stands out for offering a full onboard service, with snacks and drinks served free of charge, which is uncommon on regional flights.
<h4>More aircraft for LIAT</h4>
LIAT 2020 began operations with two Embraer ERJ 145LR (5N-BVD and 5N-BXG), which were part of the regional fleet of Air Peace. In November, it added its third ERJ 145 (5N-BUV), and next week it will add three ATR 42-600 from the former LIAT.
The Antigua and Barbuda government emphasized that it would pay US$12.1 million into an escrow account for the acquisition of other aircraft owned by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), based in Barbados.
Among the company&#8217;s ambitious plans is to expand to the United States, with a Boeing 737-500 scheduled to operate to Miami (MIA). The Antigua and Barbuda government seeks to negotiate open skies and update an Air Services Agreement (ASA) to allow operations in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the U.S. mainland.

LIAT 2020 Launches South American Routes and Expands Fleet with ATR and ERJ Aircraft

<a href="https://www.flyzair.com/">Z Air</a>, based in Curaçao, will receive it&#8217;s first Embraer ERJ 145, aiming to operate on the most distant destinations in its network and add new routes in the future. A second ERJ is currently undergoing maintenance and painting. In July 2024, the company announced that it would add two Embraer ERJ 140s and open a connection to Medellín/Rionegro (MDE) and St. Marteen (SXM). The current fleet of three Saab 340Bs will focus on the Dutch Caribbean (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao) and Barranquilla (BAQ), Colombia.
This decision came after the cessation of operations of Jetair Caribbean in June 2024, which stopped flying to Jamaica, St. Maarten, Colombia, and Suriname. The ERJ 140, with a capacity for 44 passengers and a range of 3,044 kilometers, will allow Z Air to access the destinations of the defunct airline, such as Jamaica, Haiti, and St. Maarten.

<h4>The current state of Z Air</h4>
Z Air has been modernizing its fleet. In 2021, it acquired three Saab 340B aircraft with a capacity for 34 passengers, used for regular and charter operations in the Caribbean, South America, and Central America. Additionally, it operates two Learjets for air ambulance services.

From Saab to Embraer: Z Air’s Fleet Modernization and Route Expansion Plans

<a href="https://www.aerolineas.com.ar/">Aerolíneas Argentinas</a> will maintain its new routes from Tucumán (TUC) and Rosario (ROS) to Punta Cana (PUJ), Dominican Republic, throughout the year. The update was observed in the reservation system, along with frequency increases from Córdoba to the Caribbean.
The new schedule will provide ten weekly flights between Punta Cana and Argentina year-round, not including additional frequencies during the summer season.
The route from Córdoba was inaugurated on September 13 with two weekly flights, which will increase to four per week from January to March 2025. However, starting in April, it will reduce to three weekly flights instead of two. All operations will use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft configured for 170 passengers.
On the other hand, Rosario and Tucumán to Punta Cana will begin on January 3 and 5, 2025, respectively, and were initially planned to run until March 2025. However, the new schedule reveals they will operate year-round with one weekly flight on a Boeing 737 MAX 8.
According to the Cirium platform, in 2025 Aerolíneas Argentinas is expected to offer 245,140 seats to Punta Cana, representing a 92.5% increase compared to 2024.

According to the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), as of 2024, Aerolíneas Argentinas has transported 81,741 passengers to Punta Cana, with an occupancy rate of 94% from Buenos Aires and 70% from Córdoba.
According to the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism, between January and October 2024, the Caribbean country received 191,068 Argentine tourists, 27% of whom traveled on connecting flights with airlines such as Copa, Avianca, SKY, or LATAM.

New Year-Round Flights from Tucumán and Rosario to Punta Cana by Aerolíneas Argentinas

International Air Transport Association (IATA) warned about the deterioration of the runway at the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste, urging the Costa Rican government «to promptly reactivate the rehabilitation project previously underway, as well as a short-, medium-, and long-term maintenance plan to ensure its proper functionality.»
Given that Liberia Airport is a key entry point for international travelers visiting Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, operational disruptions could negatively impact the local economy.
IATA points out that the runway&#8217;s deterioration has worsened over the past year, an issue the industry has repeatedly highlighted, partly due to heavy rains and delays in the previously planned rehabilitation work. The suspension of the works has not only complicated airline planning but also caused disruptions during the high season, when thousands of tourists, mainly from the United States and Canada, visit the region.
The association, representing over 300 airlines worldwide, also mentioned issues stemming from the sudden closure of the airport and its subsequent reopening. According to the organization, this decision led to flight diversions and cancellations, affecting scheduled itineraries and inconveniencing passengers.

<a href="https://www.aircaraibes.com/">Air Caraïbes</a> received its fourth ATR 72-600, registered as F-OSIL, at the manufacturer’s facility in Toulouse/Blagnac (TLS), which will allow the airline to strengthen its presence in the French Caribbean.
F-OSIL is currently in Praia (RAI), Sal Island, on its delivery flight, after departing from Toulouse and making a stop in Gran Canaria (LPA). It will subsequently make stops in Fortaleza (FOR) and Cayenne (CAY) before arriving in Martinique.
The airline operates with four ATR 72-600 (F-OSIL, F-OSIT, F-OSIV, and F-OSIX), and the last time it received a turboprop was in December 2019. The aircraft primarily operate from Fort-de-France (FDF), Martinique, connecting with Saint Martin (SFG) and Pointe-à-Pitre (PTP), Guadeloupe, with 4 to 9 flights per day depending on the season.

The Dominican airline <a href="https://aircentury.com/">Air Century</a>, founded in 1992 and based in Santo Domingo, has appointed Héctor Hernández as its new Commercial Director, marking a significant step in its strategy for expansion and strengthening in both current and potential markets.

Hernández’s appointment coincides with the recent presentation of the new <a href="https://aviacionline.com/2024/11/el-nuevo-gulfstream-iv-sp-de-air-century-fue-presentado-en-la-world-travel-expo/">Gulfstream IV-SP during the World Travel Expo (WTE)</a> in Miami Beach, a key event where the airline showcased its fleet of aircraft intended for the private and group travel market.
Air Century’s participation in such international events aims to attract new customers and establish strategic alliances to strengthen its charter flight division. New Codeshare Agreement Connects Europe to the Caribbean via KLM and Winair

The Dutch Caribbean Cooperation of Airports (DCCA) announced a measure to reduce the Passenger Facility Charges (PFC) for inter-island flights from the ABC Islands <a href="https://aviacionline.com/tag/aruba/">Aruba</a>, Bonaire, and Curaçao. This initiative, aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and making travel more accessible, aligns with the DCCA&#8217;s Joint Strategic Plan.
Starting in January 2025, the PFC for flights between these islands will be reduced from USD 36 to USD 15 per passenger, directly impacting the final ticket prices offered by local airlines. Implementation will be gradual, beginning in January in Curaçao and Bonaire and in February in Aruba. The high-traffic route between Aruba and Curaçao will be among the most benefited by this adjustment.

This decision is the result of two years of research on price elasticity for inter-island travel. A study conducted in 2023 concluded that lower fees would stimulate passenger demand. This analysis was presented during the 2023 DCCA Congress and served as the basis for the adjustment. Additionally, a pilot project in Sint Maarten, featuring reduced fees for routes to Saba and Statia, demonstrated that day trips could become more accessible with adjusted rates.
DCCA President Jonny Andersen highlighted that “airports are more than just gateways; they are vital connections that bring our islands closer. By reducing the PFC, we aim to make inter-island travel more affordable, foster unity among our communities, and support regional economic growth”.
<h4>Flights between Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao</h4>
The DCCA reported that three companies operating between the islands will benefit: Divi Divi Air, Z Air, and Winair, using aircraft ranging from 9 to 45 seats. According to the Cirium platform, the three airlines combined operate up to 300 flights weekly between Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao, which will represent over 325,000 seats in 2024.

Aruba, Bonaire y Curaçao reducen el precio de tasas aeroportuarias

In a new update to its reservation system, <a href="https://aviacionline.com/tag/westjet/">WestJet</a> has announced the suspension of its flights to Barbados (BGI) and Puerto Plata (POP), Dominican Republic, starting in April 2025. These destinations had been served for over a decade, operated from Toronto (YYZ) using Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 737-800 aircraft.
Flights to Puerto Plata, launched in December 2007, began as seasonal winter operations and later expanded into year-round service. Following the COVID-19 crisis, WestJet restricted these flights to specific seasons until resuming year-round service in 2024.
According to the latest update, the last flight to Puerto Plata will take place on April 25, 2025. Following this suspension, Air Transat will remain the only airline connecting Puerto Plata with Canada, offering regular flights to Toronto and Montreal, while Sunwing will continue to operate charter services.
Barbados, on the other hand, has been part of WestJet’s network since late 2008. The service began as seasonal and became year-round in 2010. However, following the pandemic, flights returned to seasonal operations until resuming year-round service in 2024. WestJet plans to suspend its flights to the island on April 26, 2025. Going forward, Air Canada will be the sole operator offering direct flights between Canada and the Caribbean island.
<h4>WestJet’s impact on both destinations</h4>
With this decision, the airline leaves a gap, as it had been transporting around 60,000 passengers annually between Canada and Barbados. Canada is the third most important market for tourism in Barbados, especially during the peak cruise season.
As for Puerto Plata, which has relied on connections with Canada to attract visitors, being the second most important market, it will also see a reduction in air service. WestJet was moving approximately 19,000 passengers annually.

WestJet’s Exit: How Barbados and Puerto Plata Will Be Affected by 2025

At the beginning of the month, <a href="https://aviacionline.com/tag/air-canada/">Air Canada</a> announced during its quarterly financial results presentation that it will reincorporate two<a href="https://aviacionline.com/tag/boeing-767/"> Boeing 767</a>-300 (ER) aircraft, retired during the pandemic in 2020. The return of these passenger aircraft is due to <a href="https://aviacionline.com/2024/09/boeing-vuelve-a-demorar-el-incremento-de-produccion-del-737-max-por-problemas-de-calidad-y-suministros/"> delays in the delivery of Boeing 737 MAX</a> aircraft caused by labor disruptions at the U.S. manufacturer.
The company continues to operate <a href="https://aviacionline.com/2022/08/air-canada-cargo-presenta-al-primer-boeing-767-300f-en-lucir-el-ultimo-livery-de-la-compania/">Boeing 767 aircraft in their cargo version, with six units</a>. According to the Cirium platform, the two passenger 767s to be added carry the registrations C-FOCA and C-GLCA and spent four years at Marana-Pinal Airpark. In mid-2024, they were ferried to John C. Munro International Airport in Hamilton, Canada.
In Hamilton, the 35-year-old Boeing 767s have been observed undergoing thorough inspections and interior refurbishments. The company has not disclosed whether the aircraft will retain their old livery or be repainted with the current design.
<h4>First destinations for Air Canada&#8217;s 767s</h4>
In a new reservation system update, the first destinations for the passenger Boeing 767&#8217;s have been revealed. Operations will begin on February 1 and run until April 1, although this period may be extended if delays in the delivery of new aircraft persist.
The company will use these aircraft to operate flights to Phoenix (PHX), Las Vegas (LAS), Montego Bay (MBJ), Calgary (YYC), and Edmonton (YEG).

According to the company’s website, the pair of aircraft will maintain their 211-seat configuration, divided into 24 seats in business class and 184 in economy.
<h4>A brief history of the 767</h4>
The last passenger Boeing 767 operated by Air Canada was retired on June 2, 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 crisis, during an Air Canada Rouge flight between Montreal and Toronto.
However, Air Canada&#8217;s relationship with the 767 dates back four decades. In October 1982, it received its first 767 with registration C-GAUB. With the initial 767-200 and later the -200 (ER) model, the airline incorporated 23 units by 1996, replacing its fleet of Douglas DC-8 aircraft during the 1980s.
Air Canada was among the first North American airlines to use the 767 for transoceanic non-stop flights over the Atlantic. The 767 was the first aircraft to receive ETOPS certification for 120 minutes in 1985. The 767-200 operated until 2008 when it was replaced by A321ceo aircraft.

The new aircraft was manufactured in 1976 and had only operated for Merpati, based in Indonesia.

The airline had not incorporated a Twin Otter since 2006. The other two (VP-CXA and CXB) were also manufactured in the 1970s. In addition to the DHC 6 aircraft, the airline operates two Saab 340s, each with a capacity of 34 seats.
The Twin Otters are used for flights to Little Cayman (LYB) from Grand Cayman (GCM) and Cayman Brac (CYB), with up to six daily services. The Saab 340s connect Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac.

<a href="https://www.sunriseairways.net">Sunrise Airways</a> resumes its operations to the United States with the restart of the Cap-Haïtien-Miami route, offering three weekly flights. For a limited time, it will be the only operator flying between the U.S. and Haiti.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has banned U.S. airlines from flying to Haiti for thirty days. This measure was taken after a Spirit aircraft was struck by gunfire from gangs while approaching the runway. In this incident, only one cabin crew member sustained minor injuries, and passengers were unharmed. Following investigations, American Airlines and JetBlue confirmed they had also experienced similar attacks.
American, JetBlue, and Spirit previously offered flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and New York-JFK to Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.

The G3-7718 flight, operated with the Boeing 737 MAX registered as PR-XMR, took off from Guarulhos at 1:55 PM yesterday, Tuesday (12), landing at 6:25 PM at Juan Santamaría International Airport. Before departure, an airport ceremony included speeches from GOL authorities and Costa Rican tourism representatives. Passengers received themed gifts and participated in an onboard celebration, which included a toast with sparkling wine and a sampling of Caribe chocolates from the brand Garoto, as reported by our Brazilian partner media, <a href="https://aeroin.net/com-bombom-garoto-para-passageiros-gol-inaugura-voo-direto-para-a-costa-rica/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AEROIN</a>.

Avelo Airlines has scheduled 18 new nonstop services, the airline&#8217;s largest expansion in its history. The airline will begin offering international routes to destinations in Mexico and Jamaica, and Hartford and Orlando/Lakeland will be its new bases this winter.

Avelo Airlines makes the largest expansion in its history with 18 new routes including two international services to Jamaica and Mexico.

Caribbean Airlines adds a new Caribbean destination by <a href="http://aviacionline.com/2024/05/caribbean-airlines-suma-un-nuevo-destino-en-el-caribe-con-puerto-rico/">inaugurating its flights to San Juan (SJU)</a>, Puerto Rico, initially from Port of Spain (POS), Trinidad and Tobago; and later from Bridgetown (BGI), Barbados, subject to the approval of the Government of Barbados.
The airline will operate three weekly flights to San Juan using ATR 72-600 aircraft, offering 408 seats per week. This new route will connect Puerto Rico with Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago facilitating access to Caribbean Airlines&#8217; extensive network of destinations in the Caribbean. Additionally, the cargo offering will be expanded, leveraging the aircraft holds to improve logistics services.
Starting in November, the route will make a stop in Bridgetown, Barbados, expanding Caribbean Airlines&#8217; connection options in the Lesser Antilles.

Additionally, it announced plans to add new destinations in the region such as Puerto Rico, Martinique, Guadeloupe, and the British Virgin Islands.
In October 2023, the government of Trinidad and Tobago revealed the national budget for Caribbean Airlines for 2023/24, shedding light on the airline&#8217;s future growth prospects. According to the budget document, <a href="http://aviacionline.com/2023/10/caribbean-airlines-cal-planea-incorporar-doce-aviones-boeing-atr-y-embraer-adicionales/">the airline plans to introduce four ATR 72-600 aircraft and three Boeing 737 MAX 8</a> through lease agreements.
