The fresh new Ecuadorian airline Equair received its second Boeing 737-700 aircraft on January 6, which arrived at Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport.
The aircraft with registration HC-CXC, named “Albatros”, was officially presented by the airline, and will operate together with its similar name “Cóndor”.
After suspending the certification and start of operations due to COVID-19 infections in crew members 20 days ago, the Ecuadorian General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics, made the formal delivery of the Air Operator Certificate to Gabriela Sommerfeld, Equair’s CEO, after having successfully completed the RDAC-119 Civil Aviation Technical Regulation certification process.
The new Ecuadorian airline is ready to start operations from Quito to Guayaquil, and from Guayaquil to the Galapagos Islands: San Cristóbal and Baltra. Likewise, on the same January 6, Equair carried out a demonstration flight, covering the Quito – Guayaquil – Baltra route.
Personnel from the DGAC and crew from the new Ecuadorian airline participated in this demonstration flight. With this, everything would be ready for the premiere of the new Ecuadorian airline for this next January 10.
In the course of 2022, two more aircraft are expected to join Equair’s fleet, thus increasing its offer of national destinations. With this start, Ecuadorian aviation will have a new participant, thus joining the competition together with LATAM, Avianca, Aeroregional and Ecuatoriana Airlines.
This 2022 will be an interesting year for Ecuadorian aviation, where the new and smaller competitors will have the great challenge of gaining a presence in the market.
Good job for Ecuador!! Now the domestic service in Ecuador is one of the best in the region
