The Iberia Group reported that during the last Christmas season, which ran from December 22 to January 10, its member airlines, Iberia, Iberia Express, and Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum, operated 5,700 flights, representing a 75% growth compared to the same period in 2020, while 1.2 million passengers were carried, almost tripling the figure obtained last year, which amounted to 478 thousand passengers.
The company also highlighted its operational performance, recording very few cancellations and reaching a regularity rate of 99.4%. On-time performance was 93.5%, making it the most punctual airline in Europe and the third in the world according to FlightStats.
This has been possible, they added, by taking advantage of the flexibility granted by the ERTEs to remove the necessary workforce at any given time, having started December with 17% of its crew in the ERTE and ending the month with just 4%. In addition, both in January and December they reinforced the dedicated staff for incidents that remained available throughout the pandemic, carrying out the necessary courses and thus joining the service immediately.
Iberia Airport Services
The handling services company closed the Christmas season with around 11,200 flights and 3.1 million passengers, three times more than during the 2020/2021 season.
For this purpose, all its workers at 19 Spanish airports were released from the ERTE and 1,000 more were hired from its usual contingent worker pool, especially in Barcelona, Madrid and Tenerife.
«The company would like to thank its employees for the commitment, dedication, and professionalism they have demonstrated once again to carry out the entire Christmas operation, and so that millions of customers have been able to reconnect with their families and enjoy a few days of rest,» Iberia concluded.
