Since December 2021, Avianca has returned to operate in Peru through its international route between Bogotá and Lima. This route has been operated daily, and the Colombian airline is using an Airbus A320 with a capacity for 150 passengers.

Avianca continues to operate between the Peruvian capital with San José, San Salvador, and Guayaquil.

    Alliance with Star Perú

The Peruvian airline Star Peru communicated through its website, that Star Peru and Avianca have established a commercial alliance, through which the Colombian airline will be able to offer to its passengers the destinations network offered by the Peruvian carrier.

Now, Avianca passengers will be able to travel to the Peruvian cities of Cajamarca, Huánuco, Iquitos, Pucallpa, and Tarapoto.

However, the city of Chiclayo has apparently not been included in this commercial agreement, so Avianca would not be able to connect Colombia with one of the main destinations of Star Peru, and the fourth largest city in Peru.

Currently, Star Peru operates with a fleet made up of 4 Boeing 737-300, with a capacity for 143 passengers each, and with 2 Dash 8-Q402, with a capacity for 76 passengers each.

It should be remembered that Avianca stopped operating in Peru in May 2021, and this alliance with Star Peru could mean a new objective for the Colombian airline with respect to its plans in Peru.

Looking To Stand Out in the Peruvian Market

Although Avianca is operating internationally in Peru, it would be seeking to reach destinations within the country, and apparently, the only way is through alliances.

However, is it possible that this alliance between Star Peru and Avianca will stand out in the Peruvian domestic market?

Avianca is operating an average of 13 weekly flights to Lima: from Bogotá, San José, San Salvador, and Guayaquil, which represents the transportation between 1,900 and 2,000 passengers per week.

Although it is true that this alliance represents a small step for Avianca’s participation in Peru, it is not enough if its international operation is not consolidated, and Star Perú’s domestic network increases.
