Iraqi Airways, Iraq’s flag carrier based in Baghdad, took delivery of the first of its five Airbus A220-300s from Mirabel, Canada. Upon entry into service, the Middle Eastern carrier will become one of the pioneers to operate this model in the region.
Iraqi Airways’ new YI-ARF-registered aircraft features a modern and comfortable dual-class cabin with a capacity for 132 passengers, 12 in business class and 120 in economy class.
This state-of-the-art unit is part of the company’s fleet renewal and modernization plan:

The A220 is the only dedicated aircraft in the 100- to 150-seat market and brings together state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials, and the latest generation of Pratt & Whitney PW1500G turbofan engines.
With significant noise mitigation and up to 25% lower fuel consumption per seat compared to previous generation units, as well as NOx emissions 50% lower than industry standards, the A220 is ready for regional and long-haul operations.
By the end of November last year, more than 180 A220 units had been delivered to 13 operators in Asia, North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, demonstrating the great versatility of the new generation of this single-aisle model from the European manufacturer.
The remaining 4 units awaiting delivery to the Iraqi carrier will receive the following registration numbers:
- YI-SON
- YI-ARG
- YI-ARH
- YI-ARI
