The 2021 ended with some news for Peruvian aviation regarding airport infrastructure.

Not only there have been news about the long-awaited and necessary expansion of the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, or the project of the new Chincheros International Airport in Cusco.

The Peruvian government has already started the procedures and other measures for the airport’s expansion at Cajamarca and Pucallpa.

It approved the execution of the expropriations of the properties affected in the expansion projects of the Cajamarca and Pucallpa airports.

«Mayor General FAP Armando Revoredo Iglesias» Airport

«Mayor General FAP Armando Revoredo Iglesias» airport is located at north Cajamarca, in the district of Baños del Inca, province and department of Cajamarca.

Cajamarca’s airport has one 2,500 meters long by 45 meters wide runway; a four-story Control Tower with 12.70 meters high; a single passenger terminal; 2 parking spaces on a platform with 160 meters long by 80 meter wide, which is for small narrow body aircraft (Airbus A319, Airbus A320 or Boeing 737).

The airport is currently under the administration of the “Aeropuertos del Perú” (AdP) company, a private company that achieved the concession of the First Group of Provinces Airport on Dec. 10, 2006.

In 2020, AdP conferred the engineering studies to carry out the runway rehabilitation works, taxiway and platform, as well as the design of the perimeter fence of the airport.

The expansion works will require an investment of $38.6 million.

At the end of 2021, the Peruvian government approved a $23,400 payment to compensate the people who will be harmed by the expropriation of land in favor of the expansion of the Cajamarca airport.

With this approval, which is executed in the first days of 2022, the expansion project of the Cajamarca airport begins. Construction works are expected to start later this year.

“Capitán FAP David Abensur Rengifo” Airport

“Capitán FAP David Abensur Rengifo” airport is located at northeast Pucallpa, in the district of Yarinacocha, province of Coronel Portillo, department of Ucayali.

Pucallpa’s airport has one 2,800 meters long by 45 meters wide runway; a five-story Control Tower with 14 meters high; a single passenger terminal; 4 parking spaces on a platform with 270 meters long by 92.90 meter wide, which is for small narrow body aircraft (Airbus A319, Airbus A320 or Boeing 737).

The airport is currently under the administration of the “Aeropuertos del Perú” (AdP) company, a private company that achieved the concession of the First Group of Provinces Airport on Dec. 11, 2006.

In 2018, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications agreed to buy/expropriate the land affected by the Pucallpa airport expansion project.

However, 3 years later, the Peruvian government announced the disbursement of $658,900 to carry out this operation.

At the beginning of this year, the Minister of Transportation and Communications promised to complete this year the approval of the technical file to rehabilitate the runway and expand the perimeter fence of this air terminal, work that will require an investment of $85 million.

Additionally, the new passenger terminal is also close to approval, with an investment of approximately $200 million.

Together, these works will improve the operating conditions of the Pucallpa airport and promote the development of the airport system in the jungle, guaranteeing safety in operations and better service standards.
