Spirit Airlines lands in Salt Lake City with flights to three cities

Spirit Airlines has announced that for the first time it will operate flights in Salt Lake City (SCL) with three new routes to Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), and Orlando (MCO), which also represents its landing in the state of Utah.

«We listened to our passengers and they told us they desired more exciting destinations to experience the outdoors. This spring is a great time to launch service to Salt Lake City, The Crossroads of The West,» said John Kirby, Spirit Airlines Vice President of Network Planning.

«We are also excited to introduce our high-value travel proposition for our new Utah customers looking for convenient nonstop flights to some of the country’s most popular leisure destinations.»

Spirit will be the first domestic carrier to announce operations there following the 2020 unveiling of The New SLC, a $4.5 billion airport redevelopment project aimed at providing a better customer experience. The airline’s presence at SLC increases competition and benefits, local families, seeking more affordable vacation options.

Spirit route schedule in Salt Lake City (SLC)

  • Las Vegas (LAS) has two daily flights beginning May 26.
  • Orlando (MCO) daily flights beginning May 26.
  • Los Angeles (LAX) daily flights beginning May 26.

Spirit will compete on these routes with the following airlines:

Las Vegas (LAS)

  • Delta Airlines has 34 weekly flights with 12,076 seats per week.
  • Southwest Airlines 27 weekly flights with 9,194 seats per week.
  • Frontier Airlines has 10 weekly flights with a supply of 3,720 seats per week.

Los Angeles (LAX)

  • Delta Airlines has 52 weekly flights with a supply of 17,446 seats per week.
  • Southwest Airlines 13 weekly flights with an offer of 4,555 seats per week.
  • JetBlue 7 weekly flights with an offer of 2,268 seats per week.
  • United by United Express 14 weekly flights with an offer of 1,764 seats per week.
  • Alaska Airlines by Skywest/Horizont Air 7 weekly flights with 1,064 seats offered per week.

Orlando (MCO)

  • Delta Airlines has 25 weekly flights with a supply of 10,774 seats per week.
  • JetBlue 5 weekly flights with an offer of 1,620 seats per week.
  • Southwest Airlines is one weekly flight with a supply of 286 seats per week.

«Spirit has the distinction of being the first new domestic airline to join since the opening of The New SLC. Spirit’s model will be a popular addition to SLC’s airline portfolio,» said Bill Wyatt, Executive Director of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports.

Spirit’s arrival in Salt Lake City (SLC) complements the airline’s domestic and international expansion of its network. It recently launched flights to Tegucigalpa, Honduras (XPL), Manchester, New Hampshire (MHT), and Miami, Florida (MIA), providing increased travel options for customers.
