Virgin Atlantic and LATAM Airlines sign new code share agreement

Virgin Atlantic has announced a new codeshare agreement with LATAM Airlines, which it hopes will offer its customers greater options to fly to Brazil.

Customers of Virgin Atlantic will be able to book LATAM-operated flights between London (LHR) and São Paulo (GRU) through the airline and connect to 12 destinations within Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and Florianópolis.

In addition, those traveling from Guarulhos to Heathrow will have the option to continue on Virgin Atlantic flights to destinations in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, including Hong Kong and Tel Aviv.

In 2019, the British airline had announced its landing in South America with daily flights between London Heathrow (LHR) and São Paulo (GRU)on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft and expected to offer codeshares with GOL, but plans were canceled due to the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, so Virgin Atlantic has ruled out of its plans to reach Brazil with flights of its own.

«We are extremely excited to launch this new codeshare partnership with LATAM Airlines. As we recover from the pandemic, partnerships become more important than ever, and we look forward to building on the incredibly successful interline relationship we’ve had for several years. We also see opportunities beyond Brazil and look forward to expanding our relationship even further to serve destinations throughout South America, including Peru and Colombia,» commented Juha Jarvinen, Virgin Atlantic’s Chief Commercial Officer.
