Cessna 207 crash in Nazca, Peru: This is what we know

This Friday, Feb. 4, around at 12:00 p.m., a Cessna 207, owned by the tourist company «Aero Santos», fell to the ground when returning to the María Reiche Neuman airport after flying over the Nazca and Palpa lines.

At the time of the accident, the Peruvians pilot and co-pilot, 3 Dutch tourists and 2 Chilean tourists were inside the aircraft.

According to local media, the pilot lost control of the aircraft when he was preparing to land and crashed a few kilometers from the runway.

The plane fell, exploded, and began to catch fire, resulting the death of all occupants.

Although there are no further details of the deceased identity, it is known that the Cessna 207 belongs to the tourist company «Aero Santos».

María Reiche Neuman Airport and the Nazca Lines

The María Reiche Neuman airport is in the Vista Alegre district, Nazca Province, Ica Department.

This airport began operations in July 1997 and is currently under the administration of the Vista Alegre City Council.

The María Reiche Neuman airport does not have commercial passenger transport operations, except for charter flights, which are rare.

Currently, this airport is used almost entirely by tour operators, who offer tourists overflights over the Nazca, Palpa and Pampas de Jumaná lines and geoglyphs.

Although it is true that their origin is unknown, it is believed that these could be made by the Nazca Culture, thus representing calendars, ritual road systems; or they could be alien manifestations.
