After almost two years, Ethiopian Airlines formalized the return of the Boeing 737 MAX to scheduled operations. In a special flight today (Feb. 1) with company executives, Ethiopian state officials, Boeing executives, journalists, and others on board, the 737-8 with registration ET-AVI marked the aircraft’s return after the suspension of operations following flight ET302.
Ethiopian CEO Tewolde GebreMariam said, «Safety is our priority and guides every decision we make and action we take. We resumed service of the 737 MAX not only after recertification by the FAA, EASA, CAAC, ECAA and other regulatory bodies, but also after returning to operations on 36 airlines around the world.»
«We took sufficient time to monitor the design modifications and the more than 20 months of rigorous work to recertify the aircraft, and ensured that our crews, engineers, technicians and employees have confidence in the safety of the fleet,» he concluded.
Ethiopian Airlines has four Boeing 737 MAXs in its fleet and 25 additional aircraft on order, and expects to resume deliveries of the model during 2022.
