Irkut, a subsidiary of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and designer of the MC-21, Russia’s most modern airliner, received the amendment to the type certificate for the MC-21-300 aircraft that will allow the use of new wings with composite materials of Russian origin.

Alexander Neradko, Head of Rosaviatsiya (the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency) handed over the certificate to Yuri Slyusar, head of UAC. This occurred during the NAIS 2022 civil aviation infrastructure exhibition. Also handed over at the event was the «aircraft designer’s certificate.»

The type certificate confirms that the MC-21-300 meets regulatory requirements. Those imposed by the civil aviation authorities and is, therefore, able to operate commercial passenger flights. The designer’s certificate, on the other hand, ensures that Irkut meets the requirements set for civil aircraft manufacturers in FAR Part 21 regulations.

Irkut had obtained the base certificate for the MC-21 last December, after successfully passing the Federal Air Transport Agency audit and test flights. During the certification process, compliance with prototype development and manufacturing requirements was demonstrated.

The MC-21 program is based on the use of digital technologies at all stages of the aircraft’s production and operation cycles.
