PLAY Airlines announces flights to Orlando

PLAY Airlines announces its arrival in the U.S. state of Florida. The Icelandic Low-Cost airline effective September 30 will offer flights from Reykjavik (KEF) to Orlando (MCO). Flights will operate three times a week: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and from MCO to KEF on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Orlando (MCO) will be PLAY’s fourth U.S. destination; the carrier will serve other destinations including Boston (BOS), Baltimore (BWI), and New York – Stewart (SWF). All these ones will start during the 2022 northern summer season.

PLAY will introduce an Airbus A321LR to its fleet. This will make it possible to operate flights to Orlando (MCO) without penalty. The Icelandic airline currently owns the standard Airbus A321neo model. With the introduction of the Long Range version an aircraft with more fuel capacity, capable of operating longer routes.

We use the latest generation A320neo/A321neo from Airbus, which is the most sought-after aircraft in the world today due to its benefits and the long-range version is a welcome addition» said Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY.

«I am convinced that our arrival in Orlando will shake up the Icelandic and Florida market. After studying our competitors’ pricing on flights to and from Orlando, we are confident that we can offer much lower prices on this popular route,» added Jónsson.

Orlando (MCO) is Florida’s third-largest airport for international passenger traffic, a popular holiday destination for Icelandic and European travelers, PLAY will offer convenient connections to its new Florida route. The airline by 2023 expects to add Miami (MIA) to its international network.

In this new service, PLAY will compete against Icelandair which offers flights between Reykjavik (KEF) and Orlando (MCO) four times a week on Boeing 737 MAX 8.
