The first remanufactured CH-47 Chinook helicopter was delivered to the Spanish Army at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Spanish Army Air Mobile Forces (FAMET) in Colmenar Viejo, Madrid. The aircraft is the first of 17 units that will modernize the Spanish fleet of Chinook helicopters by upgrading its current model, the CH-47D, to the CH-47F, the newest model.
According to Boeing press release, ehe CH-47F includes a digital automatic flight control system, common avionics architecture system, and advanced cargo handling with which it meets the modernization needs of the Spanish military to increase its operational capability, while ensuring interoperability with its allies.
«It is a joy for us to celebrate this important milestone with the Spanish Army,» said Heather McBryan, business development manager for the Cargo Helicopter and Future Vertical Takeoff programs. «The Chinook continues to exceed our customers’ expectations, and the F-model will provide Spain with an advanced and reliable aircraft from delivery and throughout the maintenance processes.»
Spain’s efforts to modernize its fleet are in line with its European counterparts. The Netherlands recently retired its latest CH-47D Chinook to replace it with the F-model configuration, while the UK purchased additional aircraft to upgrade its fleet.
With more than 950 aircraft in service and 20 international operators, including eight NATO countries, the Chinook brings the right mix of current and future capabilities to meet customer needs, and includes a worldwide supply base that ensures full parts availability, immediate international interoperability and streamlined maintenance processes.
