The world’s largest aircraft, the only one of the model ever made (there is another one that was only started to be built and never completed), was at Hostomel when Russian forces stormed the airport for the second time, after a first unsuccessful attempt to take the airfield.
This time, however, the An-225 Mriya was hit, and now the Russian newspaper Komsomolskaia Pravda showed a bit more of what the aircraft looked like, and it can be seen that the damage to the fuselage is more extensive than previously seen.
The reporter tells that the plane, one of the great symbols of the Soviet era, was reportedly destroyed by Ukrainian artillery, and that one of the plane’s pilots revealed that there was a possibility of removing the An-225 from there, but Antonov’s board of directors chose not to do so. The journalist also comments on the possibility of the giant aircraft being rebuilt, but that nothing has been defined yet.
According to what was reported by our partner site AEROIN a curious fact is that the reporter, like others who were at the site does not get very close to the An-225, which would allow to see more details of the destroyed aircraft and possible remains of the shells that hit the Antonov.
In the video it is also possible to see Russian VDV (Paratrooper Division) troops securing the site, probably due to reports that Ukrainian troops have been able to repel and even advance at some points in Hostomel, but are still far from the airport. Watch the video:
