In line with its expansion plan, VIVA inaugurated two new connections at José María Córdova International Airport (MDE), which serves Medellín, to Pereira (PEI) and Riohacha (RCH).

These are the first two routes of a total of fourteen planned for this month, according to the announcement made in December, so that its network will be composed of 44 links connecting 18 destinations in Colombia, with an offer of 8,148 new seats per week.

Flights to Matecaña International Airport, which serves Pereira (PEI), were inaugurated on March 18 and will have five weekly operations. It will have to compete with LATAM, which flies 10 times a week, and Easyfly, which operates 40 flights a week from Olaya Hererra airport. In 2021, the connection mobilized 148,220 travelers.

«This will bring a positive impact in two important ways for Matecaña International Airport, first, greater connectivity with more international destinations and secondly, any ticket purchased on this route with an international final destination will leave an international air tax of $44, which will benefit us in terms of income for the terminal,» said the airport manager, Francisco Valencia.

Riohacha (RCH) was inaugurated on March 19 with three weekly flights, where Avianca (3 weekly flights) and SARPA (3 weekly flights) already operate. In 2021, the connection mobilized 22,848 passengers.

Other routes to be inaugurated in Medellín by Viva, are Armenia (March 28), Pasto (March 29), Valledupar (March 30), and Villavicencio (March 27).

In addition, last week it landed in Punta Cana (PUJ), Dominican Republic with a direct flight from Medellín (MDE). In 2022 the airline will also start flying to Sao Pablo, Brazil.
