German low-cost airline Eurowings announced its destination network and its expectations for the Easter holidays, the first air travel peak period of the year. During the Easter holidays it will operate more than 400 daily flights to 140 destinations. The airline expects to carry around 160,000 passengers.
In many German federal states, the Easter break begins today, 8 April. This means, according to the company, that many people will be on the move in Europe from that time onwards. In many cases for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, Eurowings expects a very good week in terms of occupancy rates.
According to the airline, it will take measures to ensure punctuality and performance of services in view of the increased volume of operations. The airline will increase the number of airport staff at the airports in the mornings. The on-time departure of the first flights of the day avoids later delays due to the accumulation of delays during the course of the day.
In addition, the operator said it will maintain «sufficient standby aircraft on standby» and will work closely with air traffic control authorities to optimize layover times and avoid delays.
Eurowings has been maintaining a high number of bookings for this week for weeks. The company highlighted the popularity of traditional tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, such as the island of Crete and Palma de Mallorca. It also expects good results for connections to urban destinations such as London, Prague, Rome, and Vienna.
Palma de Mallorca International Airport (PMI) will continue to be Eurowings’ main destination, which expects to carry 3.4 million passengers by October. It currently flies to the Balearic island from 24 European airports. From 3 May, it will inaugurate the route from Memmingen (FMM).
