Iberia has presented today -at its facilities in La Muñoza- an A320 aircraft vinylized with an image of «Discover Puerto Rico», attended by the Governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro R. Pierluisi, and Iberia’s Director of Customers, Transformation and Technology, Gabriel Perdiguero, together with the Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Carlos Mercado, and Iberia’s Director of LATAM Sales and Institutional Agreements, Víctor Moneo.
It is an Airbus A320ceo registered with the EC-ILS registration, with a capacity for 180 seats in a single configuration, which the company uses for its short and medium-haul routes that include 45 destinations in Spain and 52 in Europe.
This action is part of an agreement that Iberia has signed with the Puerto Rico Tourism Company to promote the Caribbean island as a tourist destination and improve connectivity with the nearly 100 European destinations to which Iberia flies.
The aforementioned agreement also contemplates a range of actions through the airline’s communication channels such as the in-flight entertainment system, the Ronda Iberia magazine, the airline’s social media profiles, or the airline’s website www.iberia.com, among other channels.
«Our commitment to Puerto Rico is total. Iberia is the only European airline that flies direct to the Island and this summer we will increase flights to five weekly frequencies, above the capacity we offered before the pandemic, a reason for joy that joins the celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the first flight with the beloved Caribbean country,» said Gabriel Perdiguero, Iberia’s Director of Customers, Transformation and Technology.
«Expanding air access is key to developing the tourism industry and maximizing its contribution to the treasury while boosting the creation of businesses and jobs for the benefit of all. We are proud to have the support of our partners Iberia, an airline that continues to bet on Puerto Rico as a world-class destination in the Caribbean,» said Carlos Mercado Santiago, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Aena Estadisticas in 2019 between Madrid (MAD) and San Juan de Puerto Rico (SJU), 69,964 passengers and 1,015.7 tons of cargo were mobilized in 296 air operations.
