Qantas brings forward the return of its flagship non-stop route between Perth (PER) and London Heathrow (LHR) a move that will safely increase international arrivals from Europe, supporting Western Australia’s economic revival plans.
The resumption of service by the Australian flag carrier will commence on May 23, previously planned for June 19. Tickets are now available from the carrier’s website.
«This direct route between Perth and London made history when it was first launched, and along with the upcoming Perth to Rome route, its anticipated return firmly positions WA as Australia’s western gateway to Europe,» said Mark McGowan, Premier of Western Australia.
«Restoring international and interstate flight routes is a key part of our $195 million Reconnect WA package, and we look forward to welcoming more visitors from Europe back to WA safely, through these direct services,» added McGowan.

The Australian flag carrier will operate this route in a 236-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (42 Business/28 Premium Economy/166 Economy).
Since launching operations between Perth and London in 2018, it became the only non-stop service between Australia and the United Kingdom, further cementing it as the most profitable route in the entire Qantas network.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Civil Aviation Authority UK (CAA) in 2019 between London Heathrow (LHR) and Perth (PER), 141,724 passengers were mobilized.
Prior to the pandemic, international leisure passenger arrivals from Europe increased by 2.9% in 2019 compared to the previous year, this produced revenue of $545 million in visitor spending in the economy.
For the 2022 northern summer season, Qantas plans to launch a new European destination from Perth (PER) to Rome, Italy (FCO), this service will be operated on a seasonal basis which will commence on June 22. Western Australia will receive more seat capacity to Europe, exceeding 2019 levels.

«The two direct connections from Perth to London and Rome will provide a major boost to the number of visitors coming to WA from Europe, creating more jobs in our tourism, entertainment and hospitality industries, and injecting millions into our state’s economy,» said Roger Cook, Western Australia’s Minister for Tourism.
