WestJet resumed flights between Toronto and Barcelona

Today (May 14), WestJet resumed its flights between Toronto (YYZ) and Barcelona (BCN) with three weekly flights, after an absence of more than 2 years. The Catalan capital will be the only destination in Spain for the Canadian airline. Flight WS 14 took off from Lester Pearson International Airport (YYZ) at 00:12 local time and landed at El Prat Airport at 14:07.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Aena Statistics indicate that in 2019, WestJet mobilized 30,711 passengers and 142.6 tons of cargo in 124 air operations between Toronto and Barcelona, it was the third largest Canadian operator in Spain.

  • Flight WS 14 YYZ 20:10 – BCN 10:05+1 Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
  • Flight WS 15 BCN 14:00 – YYZ 16:40 Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

The flights will be operated on 320-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in three classes (16 Business Class/28 Premium Economy/276 Economy), replacing last summer’s Boeing 767-300ERs, which means an increase of more than 20% in capacity compared to 2019.

According to data obtained through Aena Estadística, prior to pandemic the non-stop service between Toronto (YYZ) and Barcelona (BCN) was the main route between Canada and Spain, where 191,273 passengers and 1,758.3 tons of cargo were mobilized in 771 air operations.

According to data compiled by Aviacionline through Cirium, WestJet will have an offer of 12,552 seats per week on fifty-two air operations between Toronto (YYZ) and Europe, representing an increase of more than 130% over 2019 levels.

  • Edinburgh (EDI) three times a week on Boeing 737-8.

  • London Gatwick (LGW) nine times a week on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
