Air Europa increases its flights to Medellin

Air Europa, starting June 14, increases its operations between Madrid (MAD) and Medellin (MDE) from three to four flights per week. The airline will have an offer of 2,368 seats per week on this route and will be the largest airline operator with a 61.2% market share.

The flights will be operated in Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with a capacity of 296 seats in two classes (22 Business Class/274 Economy). Last year, Globalia’s airline was the first to reconnect Madrid with the capital of Antioquia and is currently the only foreign airline on this route.

Flight Itinerary

  • Madrid – Medellín Flight UX 199 MAD 15:15 – MDE 18:25 Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
  • Medellin – Madrid Flight UX 198 MDE 20:25 – MAD 12:55+1 Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Data compiled by Aviacionline through Aena Statistics indicates that prior to the pandemic between Medellin – Rionegro and the Spanish capital a total of 185,241 passengers and 1,631.9 tons of cargo were mobilized in 781 air operations, it was the Latin American route with the highest growth from Adolfo Suarez International Airport (MAD), this motivated by the entry of Air Europa in June 2019.

Globalia’s airline entered the Colombian market in 2016, currently the company continues its commitment to the South American nation, in addition to its non-stop service to the capital of Antioquia, it also offers daily flights to Bogota (BOG) in Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.

For the 2022 summer season, Air Europa will have an offer of 6,512 seats between Colombia and Spain, it will be the third largest airline operator in this market, behind only Avianca and Iberia. In addition, the company will offer 10% more capacity compared to 2019, thus surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

For the first quarter of this year the route between Madrid (MAD) and Medellin (MDE) has mobilized 32,213 passengers and 480.04 tons of cargo in 133 air operations, this represents a recovery of 74.7%, 115.6% and 75.1% respectively compared to 2019 levels, cargo traffic is the market with the biggest boom.
