At the end of May, an Air Europa flight between Madrid (MAD) and Montevideo (MVD) performed the first time in history an air cargo operation between Europe and Latin America managed digitally.
Thanks to Blockchain technology, the shipment was successfully processed without the need to print a single piece of paper, saving time and avoiding mistakes during the process.
To do so, the parties involved used the Usyncro platform, designed to synchronize data from all types of logistics shipments, along with the ONE Record open standard, developed by IATA (International Air Transport Association) for the management of shared data.
In addition to Air Europa, the pilot experience involved the companies and organizations DB Schenker, Usyncro, Worlf Flight Services (WFS), Latin America Cargo City (LACC), IATA and the Spanish Tax Agency.
The process is carried out thanks to a unique reference to the shipment processed through Usyncro. The system granted all participants real-time access to a fully secure operational status, while ONE Record helped identify the data that could be accessed by each stakeholder.
Blockchain technology, the basis of this entire environment, made it possible to centralize and synchronize information with absolute transparency and security, ensuring the real-time traceability of the shipment.
By joining this initiative, Air Europa is once again at the forefront of technology applied to the air transport industry. In fact, in April, the airline became the first airline in the world to sell tickets in NFT format (NFTickets), which also uses the reliability and security of the blockchain system.
«We are pleased to have been part of this pilot, which represents the first step to revolutionize air cargo operations between Europe and Latin America. We are convinced of the need to digitize processes to become more efficient, increase data protection and contribute to greater sustainability in our industry. Blockchain is the perfect technology for this,» says Jordi Piqué, director of Air Europa Cargo.
