American Airlines inaugurates flights between Austin and Jamaica

On June 4 American Airlines inaugurated a new nonstop connection between Austin (AUS) and Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) with a weekly flight. This is the carrier’s eighth service at Sangster International Airport (MBJ).

Flight AA 3639 took off from Bergstrom Airport (AUS) at 08:14 local time and landed in Montego Bay (MBJ) at 12:26.

“AUS is committed to connecting Austin to the world and this new destination helps deliver on our promise to do so,” said Jacqueline Yaft, AUS chief executive officer.

“We know that local demand for air travel is stronger than ever, and we are grateful to our partners at American Airlines for continuing to invest in our community by launching more destinations and more nonstop flights” added Yaft.

According to data compiled by Aviacionline through the Department of Transportation (DOT) in 2019 3,196,955 passengers were mobilized between Montego Bay (MBJ) and the United States, becoming the top Caribbean destination in the US.

“American Airlines is the largest commercial passenger airline flying to Jamaica, so this new route serves to continue the growth of our valuable partnership,” said Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism.

“The new non-stop flight from Austin complements the airline’s existing service from Dallas Fort Worth and provides more access to Jamaica from this important U.S. state to support our booming travel recovery” added Bartlett.

American Airlines continues to expand its Austin operations, the carrier offers more than 40 nonstop destinations from Bergstrom Airport (AUS), including nine international services from Latin America and the Caribbean.

“We are eager to continue to build on our record growth in Austin and look forward to connecting customers to the splendor of Jamaica and beyond,” said Brian Znotins, vice president of network planning for American Airlines.
