Canada will no longer require vaccination for passengers on domestic flights as of June 20th. However, it will continue to be mandatory for foreigners arriving Canadian territory by air. As of the same day, the government will no longer require transportation workers and federal employees to be vaccinated.

Through an official statement, the Canadian administration highlighted that the measure takes place «after a successful vaccination campaign». In this sense, they underlined that the immunization requirements were always a temporary measure. Currently, almost 90% of the population is fully vaccinated.

As of 00:01 EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) on Monday, June 20th, proof of vaccination will no longer be a requirement to board an airplane or train in Canada. The use of facemasks will continue to be mandatory on both modes of transportation. On the other hand, the requirements for cruise ships passengers and crew will remain in place.

Border protection measures currently in force, including a vaccination requirement for most foreign nationals upon entry and mandatory negative testing and isolation for nationals who have not received their primary vaccination series, will remain in effect.

Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, clarified that the government «will continue to make decisions based on the best public health advice and adjust its measures accordingly». Omar Alghabra, Minister of Transportation, said the measure «will support Canada’s transportation system» as it deals with the consequences of the pandemic.
