VIVA will suspend its flights from Armenia to San Andres and Cartagena
VIVA has decided to suspend its flights from Armenia (AXM) to Cartagena (CTG) and San Andres (ADZ), according to a document filed with Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics.
Both routes were inaugurated at the end of March as part of one of the company’s major expansions in the Colombian market, opening fourteen domestic links. It currently operates between Armenia and Cartagena with three weekly flights and had transported 7,640 passengers up to May. It operates two flights a week to San Andres and carried 6,144 passengers in the first two months.
The last flight to Cartagena is scheduled for August 29 and to San Andres from August 30. According to the Quindío government, the suspension is due to high fuel costs and the volatility of the dollar in the country.
The low-cost company announced that it will continue to connect Armenia with Medellín/Cordova (MDE), although as from September it will increase from 4 to 9 flights per week, allowing it to connect with both destinations lost through this hub.
This announcement joins two other routes suspended in June, which were also inaugurated within the expansion plan, being the connections between Bucaramanga (BGA) and Santa Marta (SMR); and Cali (CLO) and Montería (MTR).
