Iberia continues to restore its pre-pandemic capacity for this boreal winter season in Brazil. As of October 30, it resumes operations to Rio de Janeiro (GIG) with three weekly flights, complementing its service to Sao Paulo – Guarulhos (GRU).
Data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium indicate that the Spanish airline will have an offer of 6,082 seats per week in twenty operations between Spain and Brazil, the company has restored 69.45% of its pre-pandemic offered capacity and will be the second largest in this market with a 33.34% share, where it currently competes with Air Europa and LATAM Airlines.
«At Iberia we are convinced that for recovery it is necessary to bet, and we are betting on Brazil, one of our strategic markets in Latin America» said María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Commercial Director, Network Development and Alliances.
«It is true that we have not yet recovered the capacity we offered before the pandemic, but it gives us immense joy to recover our flights to Rio de Janeiro and we continue to work with the same commitment and enthusiasm that we have shown throughout these 76 years since our first flight,» added López Solás.
Brazil was one of the key markets in the recovery of Iberia’s long-haul market after the outbreak of the pandemic, on October 25, 2020 the airline restored its operation to São Paulo – Guarulhos (GRU), it was one of the first routes it resumed in Latin America.

- Madrid – Rio de Janeiro Flight IB 6025 MAD 12:05 – GIG 18:55 Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
- Rio de Janeiro – Madrid Flight IB 6024 GIG 20:20 – MAD 10:30+1 Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Flights are operated on Airbus A330-200 aircraft with a capacity of 288 seats in two classes (19 Business Class/269 Economy) and round-trip promotional fares are available from BRL 1,576. The company’s last operation on this route was on July 19, 2020.
Iberia customers in Brazil will be able to connect through the more than one hundred European destinations offered by the company, serving the main corporate and holiday markets.
Data compiled by Aviacionline through Aena Statistics indicate that for the first half of 2022 between Spain and Brazil 333,373 passengers and 10,005.83 tons of cargo have been mobilized in 1,276 air operations.
