PLAY set to fly to Washington Dulles

PLAY announces a new non-stop service to Washington – Dulles (IAD) from April 26, 2023 with daily flights: the low-cost airline will operate to major airports in the metropolitan area of the U.S. capital in the upcoming summer season.

This new connection is the company’s fourth destination, complementing its operations to Baltimore (BWI), Boston (BOS) and Newburgh (SWF). In addition, passengers from Washington will be able to make popular European connections to Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Brussels, Dublin and other cities through its hub in Reykjavik (KEF).

PLAY will be the only low-cost carrier to connect Dulles Airport (IAD) to Europe, the company continues to grow steadily and in July of this year moved 109,956 passengers and increased its occupancy factor by 25%. Washington is the eighth largest city in North America, and the company anticipates that this new route will be key to its expansion in the United States.

“As the international gateway to the capital region of Washington, D.C., Dulles International Airport is committed to offering a wide variety of air products for our local community to access global travel,” said Paul Bobson, vice president of Airline Business Development for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Flight Itinerary

  • Reykjavik – Washington Dulles Flight OG 141 KEF 15:10 – IAD 17:40 daily flights.
  • Washington Dulles – Reykjavik Flight OG 142 IAD 18:55 – KEF 04:55+1 daily flights.

The route will be operated on Airbus A320neo and Airbus A321neo aircraft and promotional fares are available from USD 99 each way.

“BWI has been a very popular destination with strong demand from both locals and the European market, proving that Washington D.C. is a key destination for us. The addition of IAD was a strategic decision for PLAY’s fourth U.S. destination to serve this strong and growing region, and to undercut competitors’ high fares in the area,” said Birgir Jonsson.

The Icelandic airline expects to have a fleet of 10 A320neo family aircraft by next summer and will continue to add popular new routes in Europe and North America by offering affordable fares.
