Wizz Air continues to expand its offer of seats and destinations from Italy: the low-cost airline will incorporate three Airbus A321neo in the country, basing two aircraft in Rome – Fiumicino (FCO) and one in Milan Malpensa (MXP).
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Cirium platform, Wizz Air for the northern winter season will have an offer in Italy of 1,208,852 seats per month, making it the third largest airline operator in the country behind only Ryanair and ITA Airways.
The addition of these aircraft will allow the company to launch 12 new non-stop services, in addition to increasing frequencies on five routes from Rome – Fiumicino (FCO) and three from Milan – Malpensa (MXP). The new routes will start in October and are already available for sale on the company’s website.
The assignment of the two new aircraft at Rome – Fiumicino (FCO) will increase the base to seven aircraft. The company will offer 65 routes and add seven new non-stop services, including: Barcelona (BCN), Gothenburg (GOT), Malaga (AGP), Paris – Orly (ORY), Porto (OPO), Seville (SVQ) and Valencia (VLC). It will also add extra frequencies and capacity on existing routes to Eindhoven (EIN), Hurghada (HRG), Tel Aviv (TLV) and Yerevan (EVN).
With the extra Airbus A321neo at Milan – Malpensa (MXP), it will increase the base to six aircraft. Wizz Air is to add five new routes from the Lombardy capital’s main airport including: Cardiff (CWL), Jeddah (JED), Marsa Alam (RMF), Riyadh (RUH) and Yerevan (EVN) starting in October. It will also increase frequencies on existing services to Tel Aviv (TLV), Catania (CTA) and Athens (ATH). With this expansion, the low-cost airline will offer 43 destinations from Milan – Malpensa (MXP).

As of November 3, Wizz Air will close its base in Palerma (PMO) the aircraft currently based there will be redeployed to support expansion from Rome and Milan. The airline will continue to operate from Falcone – Borsellino Airport (PMO) offering daily flights from Venice – Marco Polo (VCE) and Milan – Malpensa (MXP), but services to Bologna (BLQ) and Turin (TRN) will cease.
Wizz Air will continue to operate more than 220 weekly flights in the Italian domestic market and will expand its operations from Bologna (BLQ) and Turin (TRN) to its base in Catania – Fontanarossa (CTA), where the company stations three aircraft.
