Lufthansa presented a new product for all its wide-body aircraft classes, under the project name “Allegris”, in line with the entry of its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X, but which will also include the renovation of the interiors of its Boeing 747-8i.

First and Business will be completely renovated, the latter with all seats having direct aisle access. In Premium Economy and Economy there will also be new products.

Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, said: “We want to set new and unprecedented standards for our passengers. The largest investment in premium products in our company’s history supports our claim to remain the leader in the premium segment among Western airlines.”

A First Class Suite for the first time

For the first time in the company’s history, Lufthansa introduced First Class Suits, which will include cabins with sliding doors to provide total privacy for passengers.

The seat, almost one meter wide and two meters long, can be converted into a spacious bed. In addition to many other storage options, there is a large personal closet in each suite. Other amenities include a monitor of up to 27 inches.

Those traveling together will be able to dine at a large dining table, where one can sit across from their partner or traveling companion, just like in a restaurant. Entertainment is provided by screens that span the width of the suite, with Bluetooth connectivity for wireless headphones.

Lufthansa will unveil more details of the suite, as well as other First Class innovation, early next year.

New Business Class: Front row suite

The new Business Class had been announced in 2020 with the Boeing 777X order, but now they detailed the changes that will be made. Previously, this class did not have aisle access at all seats, now it will offer greater privacy with dividing walls, sliding doors that close completely and aisle access at all locations.

All seats can be converted into a six-foot-long bed. It will also include a 17-inch monitor, wireless charging, noise-canceling headphones and the ability to connect one’s devices to the entertainment system via Bluetooth, as part of a new Allegris Business Class experience.

The company will also present more details and innovations about the new Lufthansa Business Class next spring.

Lufthansa plans “Sleeper’s Row 2.0” in Economy and a new Premium Class

Lufthansa launched Sleeper’s Row in its Economy Class in August 2021 for its long-haul routes, offering a full row for one person or together with a travel companion.

It now plans to introduce a “Sleeper’s Row 2.0” on all new long-haul aircraft as part of “Allegris”. The new seat will be able to fold down a leg rest and use the extra mattress to turn it into a bed, i.e., a reclining surface that is 40 percent larger compared to the original “Sleeper’s Row.” It also plans to give an option to reserve a vacant neighboring seat, providing even more privacy.

Lufthansa Group’s new Premium Economy was introduced with SWISS in spring 2022. The seat is integrated into a rigid shell and can be effortlessly adjusted without affecting other passengers in the row behind. It will offer generous upper body and legroom, and is equipped with a folding leg rest. Passengers will have a 15.6-inch personal monitor with high-quality noise-cancelling headphones.

Lufthansa Allegris in all classes on long-haul routes

By 2025, the Lufthansa Group will invest a total of €2.5 billion in products and services alone to improve the customer experience, from initial booking, throughout the airport and lounge, to the replacement of more than 30,000 seats.

The company will receive more than 100 aircraft with the new product, including 28 Boeing 777-9; 32 Boeing 787-9; 27 Airbus A350-900; and seat replacements for 21 A350-900 and 19 Boeing 747-8i aircraft.

The latest addition to the fleet, the Boeing 787-9, and four Airbus A350 delivered to Lufthansa in recent months, feature upgraded business class from manufacturers Thompson (A350) and Collins (787-9). Four more Boeing 787-9s with this Business Class will be delivered to Lufthansa in the coming weeks.

By 2030, more than 180 new high-tech short- and long-haul aircraft will be delivered to the Group’s airlines, in what represents the largest fleet renewal in its history.

The Group stated that it will take delivery of a new aircraft every two weeks, either Boeing 787, Airbus 350, Boeing 777-9 on long-haul routes or new Airbus A320neo for short-haul flights. Between 2022 and 2027, Lufthansa Group will take delivery of a total of 32 Boeing Dreamliners.
