Air Canada inaugurates flights between Halifax and Newark

On December 16 Air Canada inaugurated its flights between Halifax (YHZ) and Newark (EWR), which will be the only non-stop connection between the province of Nova Scotia and the New York area. With this new service, the airline connects six Canadian cities with the American city.

Flight AC 8670, operated by Air Canada Express in a De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 registered C-GUJZ, took off from Halifax – Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) at 12:32 local time and landed at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) at 13:46, after two hours and 14 minutes.

The last operation between Newark (EWR) and Halifax (YHZ) was on March 31, 2020, on a service operated by United Express with twice-daily flights on Embraer ERJ 145s.

“With our new service to New York-Newark, Air Canada has reinforced its commitment to Halifax and the Atlantic region. We are also proud to support Halifax Stanfield International Airport and our partnership contributes to the region’s economy by connecting Atlantic Canada to one of the largest metropolises in the United States,” said, David Rheault, Air Canada’s vice-president, government, and community relations.

  • Halifax – Newark Flight AC 8670 YHZ 11:45 – EWR 13:04 Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
  • Newark – Halifax Flight AC 8669 EWR 13:45 – EWR 16:35 Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

  • From January 8, 2023, it will increase to daily flights.

Air Canada from Halifax (YHZ) also offers daily operations to Boston (BOS) and seasonal services to Orlando (MCO) and Tampa (TPA), strengthening Nova Scotia’s connectivity to four U.S. destinations.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, the Canadian flag carrier will have a 16,960-seat weekly offering to Newark (EWR), the company will connect New York’s second largest airport with Toronto (YYZ), Montreal (YUL), Vancouver (YVR), Calgary (YYC), Ottawa (YOW) and now Halifax (YHZ).
