Air Europa and Azul Linhas Aéreas have signed a new codeshare agreement.

As a result of the partnership, the Spanish airline will expand its presence in Brazil and offer more connection alternatives for its passengers from the international airports of São Paulo-Guarulhos (GRU) and Salvador de Bahia (SSA) to nine other cities in the South American country. For its part, the Brazilian airline will reinforce its international expansion plan.

Air Europa will use its carrier code to market flights operated by Azul from São Paulo to Cuiabá (CGB), Belo Horizonte (CNF), Curitiba (CWB), Porto Alegre (POA), Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont (SDU) and Recife (REC). It will also offer its customers connections from Salvador de Bahia to São Paulo-Congonhas (CGH), Belo Horizonte (CNF), Campinas-Viracopos (VCP), Porto Seguro (BPS) and Recife (REC).

On the other hand, Azul will use its code on flights operated by Air Europa between Madrid-Barajas (MAD) and Lisbon (LIS).

Estelle Leray, Air Europa’s Director of Alliances, said the agreement is «a great achievement for both companies». She also stressed that the partnership will allow the company to reinforce its «growth and consolidation», as well as meaning «more and better flight options with the many benefits and advantages of flying codeshare».

«For us it is very important that Azul expands agreements with international companies, jointly strengthening our networks and increasing the relevance of the companies involved», said André Mercadante, Director of Alliances and Planning of the Brazilian airline. «Air Europa, which has been a partner for years, brings more strength to this project, which is a great achievement for us», he added.
