As reported by our partner AeroIn, sources close to Amazon Air from The Loadstar, a site specialising in logistics, assure that the airline of the American e-commerce giant will inaugurate its flights to South America in the coming weeks.
The service would begin on 21 January. Cargo airline Air Transport International, one of the companies flying on behalf of Amazon, would operate from Miami International Airport (MIA) with four Boeing 767-300F aircraft.
Initially, Amazon Air would link the South Florida city with Bogotá (BOG), Lima (LIM) and Quito (UIO), with the aim of transporting flowers to the United States for Valentine’s Day, which is celebrated on 14 February.
Every year, global air logistics serves the flower industry during the last days of January and the first two weeks of February, in order to transport flowers between the main producing markets and those that demand these fresh plant parts. Colombia is one of the world’s largest exporters of flowers and it is common for airlines to reinforce their cargo operations in the country during these times.

Amazon Air landing in South America
In addition to those mentioned, Amazon Air is studying other routes in South America that would mean its definitive landing in the region and would optimise e-commerce logistics. Meanwhile, the company’s commercial area is also evaluating potential South American partners, especially those who tend to buy space on cargo planes.
Amazon Air is expected to expand in Latin America in the near future. The company has already made clear its intentions to compete in this market, although financial and commercial agreements have yet to be concluded to move towards the inauguration of scheduled operations.
The company currently has 89 operational aircraft in its fleet, of Boeing 767-300F, Boeing 737-800F and ATR 72-500F types.
