On December 8 Avianca began its expansion into Miami (MIA) with the start of operations to Bucaramanga (BGA), Pereira (PEI) and Santa Marta (SMR). In addition, the airline will resume service from Cali (CLO), Cartagena (CTG) and Barranquilla (BAQ) to Florida.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, Avianca will offer 21,384 weekly seats between Miami (MIA) and Colombia in December, a 30.8 percent increase in capacity compared to pre-pandemic levels, and will be the second largest airline in this market, behind only American Airlines.
The first service to start was flight AV 148, which was operated in an Airbus A319 registered with registration number N691AV, which took off from Palonegro International Airport (BGA) at 06:13 local time and landed at Miami International Airport (MIA) at 09:08, after two hours and 55 minutes.
In addition, Avianca will be the only airline to offer non-stop flights between Santa Marta (SMR) and the United States. The airline will be the operator with the greatest connectivity between the state of Florida and Colombia, offering services from 8 Colombian cities to Miami (MIA), more than any other foreign company.
