Civil aviation division of Transport Canada (TCCA) has granted type certification for the Embraer E190-E2 and E195-E2 aircraft.
The latest family of medium-range business jets developed by the Brazilian manufacturer had been granted type approval by Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) between 2018 and 2019.
The Embraer E-Jet E2 family was unveiled at the 2013 Paris International Air Show. Two years earlier, the manufacturer had announced that it would be working on the development of revamped models based on the E-Jet, its successful family of narrow-body commercial aircraft.
The E2 family aircraft enable 17% to 25% lower fuel burn compared to previous aircraft and have a lower noise impact. In addition, their overall operating cost was also reduced.
Porter Airlines, first Embraer E195-E2 customer in North America
According to Embraer in a press release, the first of fifty E195-E2s ordered by Porter Airlines, a Toronto-based regional airline, will be delivered in the next few days, making it the first customer of the type in Canada and North America.
The Canadian carrier currently has a firm order for half a hundred aircraft and a further fifty purchase rights. The deal has a list price of 1.56 billion US dollars.
Upon approval by the Canadian regulator, Porter Airlines will be able to begin scheduling the aircraft. The airline plans to use the E195-E2s on routes between business and leisure destinations in Canada, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean. Initially, the aircraft will operate from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.
