Iberia presented its outlook for 2023, in which it seeks to strengthen its current destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean starting next summer, after having recovered its flights to Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Brazil, and Caracas (CCS), Venezuela.
According to what the airline stated in a meeting with the media that took place in Madrid, they plan to have approximately 260 weekly flights between Spain and Latin America, a figure 5% higher than the pre-pandemic figure, highlighting a third daily service to Bogota (BOG), Colombia, and the recovery of the second daily flight to Lima (LIM), Peru. Iberia highlights having recovered 95% of its capacity during the third quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2019, and estimates that it will close 2022 at 85%.
Flights to Colombia
Iberia will increase from 14 to 18 weekly flights, that is, it would add a third daily service four times a week starting June 2, 2023, which represents a 12% growth in frequencies compared to 2019. They will be operated on Airbus A350-900 aircraft with capacity for 348 passengers.
However, the company does not plan for the moment to recover its flights to Medellín/Rionegro (MDE), the only destination in Latin America and the Caribbean to which it has not yet returned.

According to data obtained through AENA Estadísticas, Bogota is Spain’s main intercontinental destination. Between January and November 2022, 1,145,017 passengers were mobilized, a growth of 10.8% compared to the same period in 2019.
Recently, Avianca announced that it will increase from 2 to 3 daily flights between both capitals. In addition, Air Europa and Plus Ultra operate 7 and 3 weekly flights respectively.
Flights to Peru
Iberia will increase from 7 to 10 weekly flights between Lima and Madrid as of June 5, 2023, recovering all pre-pandemic frequencies. They will be operated by Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

The Spanish company would become the largest operator between Spain and Peru, since LATAM (7 weekly flights), Air Europa (7 weekly flights) and Plus Ultra (4 weekly flights) also fly there. Between January and November; 628,629 passengers have been mobilized, being the fifth most important route between Spain and Latin America and the Caribbean.
